Stobie pole installation of the Mosaic for Afghan Women in Blight Street: Kristin Wohlers (MAANZ Community Officer), Alison Russell and Rosalind Hannaford (Hindmarsh Greening), Behishta Anwar (President of the SA Afghan Women Federation), Anna Howard (Croydon Bowling Club), Rachel Davies (British Association of Modern Mosaic BAMM).
This powerful international mosaic project was created by over 1,200 artists from 46 countries. More than 120 South Australian community mosaic artists engaged in our state’s contribution, honouring the resilience, culture, and lived experiences of Afghan women and girls.
The mosaic scarf represents the colours, patterns, and textures of traditional Afghan dresses—each tile carrying a story of identity, culture, and courage. Its installation in South Australia ensures that the voices and struggles of Afghan women remain visible in our public spaces.
The SA mosaic scarf has been cut into panels which have been installed on Stobie poles along Blight Street in Brompton. They stand as a public symbol of solidarity, hope, and the strength of Afghan women and girls.
