Hahndorf Built Piece by Piece
A project initiated by the National Trust SA, Hahndorf branch to showcase the history of Hahndorf particularly on the Stobie poles entering Hahndorf. Power is underground in the main section of the village.
The story of Hahndorf is told in sequence as visitors enter the village with a selection of scattered poles in strategic places. Hahndorf was settled by Prussian Lutherans who fled their homeland in 1838 and 38 families came to the Adelaide Hills in 1839. A true story of faith, courage and resilience which speaks on the Stobie poles in the artistic form of mosaics reminding the visitor of the importance of this heritage listed village.
The Stobie Pole Mosaics are on Mt Barker Road.
We expect to cover 13 poles over the next 18months, April 2026
Fabulous roundels are featured in Hahndorf, made by: Trish Adams, Sheila Fernandes, Linda Graham, Jo McKenzie, Ava Drew, Vicky Ogden, Judy Wartmann.
Hahndorf community members are fabricating the mosaic around the roundels with crockery.
